The Carolina Reaper chilli is possibly one of the best known chillies alongside the likes of the Jalapeno, Cayenne and Tabasco, however, this chilli is known due to its pure heat level and is still considered to be the hottest chilli in the world.

  • Quantity of Seeds: 10 seeds per packet
  • Origin: It was bred by Ed Currie of the PuckerButt Pepper Company in South Carolina. It's a cross between a Ghost Pepper (Bhut Jolokia) and a red habanero.
  • Genus: Capsicum chinense
  • Scoville Rating (SHU):  The Carolina Reaper held the Guinness World Record for the hottest chili pepper from 2013 to 2023. It boasts an average Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) rating of around 1,641,183 SHU, with some individual peppers reaching over 2.2 million SHU. To put that in perspective, a jalapeño pepper measures between 2,500 and 8,000 SHU.
  • Plant Size: Typically grows to about four feet tall.
  • Pod Size: The pods are typically small, about 1-2 inches long, with a bumpy, gnarled texture. They often have a distinctive pointed "scorpion tail."
  • Flavour: Despite the overwhelming heat, the Carolina Reaper is said to have a fruity and slightly sweet flavour before the intense burn kicks in.

Important Note: Due to its extreme heat, caution should be exercised when handling and consuming this pepper.

All plants are grown on our farm in Norfolk, UK and are grown in an open pollinated area.
