The Lemon Mint, also known as Monarda citriodora, is a perennial plant with a short life span that is typically grown as an annual or biennial. Lemon bee balm, lemon mint, and lemon bergamot are some of the common names for this plant. When the leaves are crushed, a smell that is reminiscent of lemons is released.  It produces gorgeous spikes of scented, tubular, two-lipped white, pink, and purple flowers that are arranged atop purplish bracts and are very appealing to pollinating insects. The lance-shaped, aromatic leaves have a strong perfume of lemon and are used to flavour tea and savoury foods in a manner that is comparable to that of lemon mint. The plant is simple to cultivate and will produce flowers in the first season after an early seeding.

Each year in the autumn, this perennial's growth is cut back to a level below the earth, and then in the spring, it produces brand new growth.
