Papaver commutatum Poppy 'Ladybird' is a lovely variety with huge red flowers that are spotted with black, similar to a ladybird; it is also very simple to cultivate. Just disperse the seed in an area of disturbed soil, and it will germinate and flourish.

Finely rake a patch of warm, moist, soil (they do not mind poor soil) and scatter the seeds over in April-May or September-October, then cover the seeds lightly. If using as a cut flower, sear the end of the stems in boiling water for 20 seconds before placing them in a vase of water to prolong their vase life. |
