Orius laevigatus is where you go when everything else has failed. It is one of the very few biological controls capable of killing adult thrips, which is what makes it the last resort for an infestation that other treatments have only slowed down.
We supply a mixture of 500 adults and nymphs, so the release attacks every stage of the thrips life cycle at once rather than working through it. Orius is not a specialist either, and will also take aphids, mites, whitefly and moth eggs while it is in there.
Orius works far better confined than loose. This matters more than anything else you will do with it. Isolate the plants you are treating in a single room and shut the door, or cover them with netting. Released into an open greenhouse or an airy conservatory the bugs disperse and the treatment underperforms, and this is the most common reason people are disappointed with it.
It performs well on most plants and particularly well on anything producing pollen, which gives the adults an alternative food source and keeps them in place between thrips.
