A hardy cottage garden favourite. Bright pinks, yellows, reds and whites….very colourful and cheerful (The image is of just one of these colours).
This variety has won awards for its early flowering and totally double flowers that come in an excellent selection of colours, including yellow, red, rose, and white. In comparison to other types, these take up a larger portion of the stem at any given time. Grows easily as a half-hardy annual and produces flowers the first year after sowing the seed.

I find it best to sow the seeds in June into seed trays, pot on when bigger and then plant them out into the garden in September to flower the following late spring/early summer. You can just sow them directly into position in May-June if you prefer. Cover the seeds only very lightly as they need light to germinate. These are tall plants and need space so place 2 feet apart when planting out. Grow them up against walls and fences or stake them to protect them from the wind. |
