This is such an unusual and beautiful flower.
Spiky leaves and thistle-like flowers in beautiful shades of silvery grey through to cobalt blue. The leaves are dark green and the stems can be silver, green or greeny-blue. Its a fabulous one to pick for fresh flower arrangements and also dries beautifully too.
It's full of nectar richness for the pollinators in the summer months and come winter it looks gorgeous silhouetted against the bleak, cold skies.
Sea Holly grows well in coastal areas and gravel gardens. It likes gritty, well drained soil and full sun and is drought tolerant.
But despite being a hardy perennial it will suffer in the winter unless it's given a good straw mulch to help to keep from rotting.
