Very popular and reliable winter hardy ‘greens’ at a time when fresh, nutritious vegetables can be in short supply. Pick fresh young leaves throughout the winter and spring, older leaves have a stronger flavour.

- Sow seed thinly in a well-prepared seedbed, 12mm deep in drills 23cm apart
- Transplant when large enough to handle, about 5 weeks from sowing, to 50cm between plants.
- Plant firmly and keep well watered until established.
